Show and Tell for February 10, 2018

I’m sitting at my desk (with Finn laying underneath) staring out the window at the snow lightly falling in the backyard. I don’t know about you, but a snowy winter is something I actually love. I’m not fond of the cold, but there is something about the snow that makes everything seem magical.

This week I went to Pilates Babies & Barre Babies classes. I LOVED the Barre Babies class, but it was a pretty hard workout for this out of shape girl. My legs are killing me and I had to cancel my Yoga Babies for this afternoon because I just can’t do anything. lol.

  • This Saturday is National Cupcake Day in support of the OSPCA and Finn has been invited to his first doggy event! He’ll get to meet Crusoe the Celebrity Daschund and sample some treats. Lucky boy.
  • This morning I remembered that I wanted to “clean up” my active FB logins. You know when you login to a new app or website using your FB. There were soooo many that I never use and don’t even remember signing up for, so I’m removing them all. Here is the link
  • Riot Grrls take note. L7 is BACK and going on a mini tour! Too bad it’s only in the US… for now.
  • I think these 5 Things Successful Women Do Every Day are pretty good ideas and I’m going to incorporate them into my daily life.
  • Something I had never done before having a baby was change a diaper. So I had NO IDEA what a blowout actually was to deal with and OMG ewww. This week I saw these Shitten Mittens and know that these would be a great gift for new parents.
  • Of course I had to read The Best Chocolate for your Zodiac Sign. Mine says that it’s Chocolate Chip Cookies, but I disagree. I’m a Brownie or Milk Chocolate fan. Is yours accurate?
  • A friend of mine from high school is doing something really interesting. He’s joined The Mystery Mountain Project with Canadian Explorations Heritage Society to re-enact the historic “footsteps of intrepid mountaineers Don and Phyllis Munday who explored the Waddington range in 1926.” Good luck Stu!

Our expedition will begin with a journey up Bute Inlet by boat using the same route the Munday party used 92 years ago. We’ll be traveling expedition style ferrying loads of approximately 2,000 lbs of food and equipment to various camps. This will include both modern gear and gear as was used in 1926.

From the coast we will hack through dense brush and across dangerous rivers for 55 km through Homathko river valley. Then we will ascend 18 km of massive glaciers to get to the base of Mt. Waddington. From this base camp on the Bravo Glacier Route we will attempt the climb. Due to a shortage of food, the Mundays were not able to complete their climb in 1926.

Show and Tell for February 2, 2018

Yesterday was my first Yoga Babies class at Toronto Yoga Mama’s and Abigail & I both loved it! I’m pretty sore today but can’t wait for our classes next week. It’s really amazing how much my body changed during pregnancy (and how much muscle I lost)! Being sick for 9 months really took a toll on me and I’m really looking forward to gaining my strength back.

  • My 2018 Day Designer* finally arrived yesterday and I am going to spend the weekend organizing my goals and planning for the year. I was late ordering it this year, so my wall calendar in the kitchen is full of scribbles 🙂
  • Abigail is now 5 months so we started her on solid food (as per our doctor). I had no idea what to feed her and someone share this Wee Little Ones Weaning Chart by Kat French Designs and it has been super helpful. So far we’ve had some sweet potato and avocado!
  • I thought this was neat. The Friendship Lamp is a lamp that lights up at your friends house when you touch the one at your house.
  • The Rebel Mama blog is one of my lifesavers now that I’m a Mom (that is still very weird to say/write!). The wrote this great article called “Hot Tips for Raising a Feminist” and it’s a good read for parents and non-parents alike.
  • When I started blogging (in 2008 on Blogger and then officially at back in Feb 2009) there weren’t alot of us in Toronto. I was inspired first by Raymi, Casie, Xiaxue and Gala Darling and thought I love to write, so why not do it too. Now the market is oversaturated with “influencers” and I found this article (I think shared by Casie) Time to Address the Elephant in the Room to be a pretty interesting read.
  • I LOVE my InstantPot and have been using it pretty often for meals. These 10 Incredible Ways You Should Be Using Your Instant Pot are actually pretty smart. If you know me IRl, you know I love my egg salad sandwiches, but I never thought to use the InstantPot for them!
  • Of course, Buzzfeed has a great post on 27 Amazing Charts That Will Turn You Into A Baking Whiz. Some really great and helpful tips!
  • I’ve posted about the kids story book “Go The Fuck To Sleep” back in 2011 but I just found this video of Samuel L. Jackson reading it. So good.

That’s it for this week! Have a great weekend.

Show and Tell for January 26, 2018

This week was a challenge and I almost missed posting a blog. I wanted to share something a little more newsworthy, but sitting down to write this Show & Tell is the first time I’ve had a minute to myself all week.

So far, I’ve been doing well on my goals for the year and next week I start my membership at Toronto Yoga Mama’s. I’ve already booked myself in for 4 classes and am going to try to make it at least twice a week. I love to hibernate in the winter and wouldn’t leave my house in the cold weather if it wasn’t a necessity. So getting out of my literal comfort zone to head to the gym is going to be hard, but I’ve got a buddy who signed up with me so I’m looking forward to her keeping me accountable!

That’s it for this week. Short & sweet and now back to life 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Show and Tell for January 19, 2018

I just looked back to find my last Show & Tell post and realized that it has been 2.5 YEARS since I’ve done one! That is absolutely crazy that it has been that long. These are some of my favourite (and most time consuming) posts to write and I definitely want to get back in action on the series.

So here it is my friends, the first Show & Tell since 2015

  • I’ve updated my Goals for 2018 to add organize and declutter my life (I really mean this) because I’d like to be more simple and minimalist with my possessions; as well as to try to pare down my wardrobe to a capsule collection.
  • I’m patiently waiting for my 2018 Day Designer to arrive so in the meantime I’ve been using their Free Printables to keep my life in order. One of my favourites on the site has to be the “50 Best Practices for living a well designed life“. I’ve got a copy hanging in my home office right beside my desk.
  • A great article shared today in one of the mommy groups I’m in. I have been feeling extremely overwhelmed by everything since adding a baby to the mix and this is definitely some of it. Women Aren’t Nags—We’re Just Fed Up
  • I used to save all my Show & Tell links to and then found out today that was purchased and is read only, so I’ve switched my Bookmarking site to Pocket. It seems to be a much better alternative already and comes as a default plugin in Firefox.
  •  Something I have never really thought about was getting a Will, but has certainly changed since I had the baby. I have no idea where to start and honestly it’s a hard thing to think about, but in 2017 an acquaintance launched Willful an online end of life planning service. I’ve signed up for an account and we will get this done in 2018.

“Toronto-based Willful launches to provide Canadians with a credible, comprehensive, online end-of-life planning service. With Willful, users can create legally-binding documents in less than twenty minutes, avoiding sit-down meetings with lawyers and expensive legal fees. Willful currently offers three products in Ontario: wills,  power of attorney for personal care (living wills), and power of attorney for property, and each can be created online in a fraction of the time, and for a fraction of the traditional price.”

  • I typically hate winter (as do most people I know) and the cold, dreary days get to me. There is nothing better than curling up in front of a fireplace with a warm mug of something and a book and I’d love to have that feeling all winter long. I recently read a Rebel Mama blog post on Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) the Danish concept of feeling cozyness all winter long. So I’m doing it and it’s already helping to turn around my winter mindset.
  • And because we are in the middle of the season of sickness I recently found out that there are still doctors who will come to your house! Imagine that in this day and age. So if you’re too sick to go to the doctor, but not too sick for emerg then check out the National Home Doctor Service

That’s it for this week!

Show & Tell: Aug 15/14

Today I sit at my new desk for the first full day and I am super happy about it! I get distracted pretty easily when people are in front of me, so this move will make me less chatty and more productive. It’s funny that my report cards always used to say I talk alot and now I talk to people all day for a living 🙂

It’s been a crappy weather week here in Toronto. Yesterday and today feel like Fall weather. I’m not ready for the Fall or Winter yet. I feel like we haven’t even had a summer! I think it’s because I didn’t go on any vacations or do much this year. Last summer I did the Cadillac Driver Academy, went to Sean’s cottage with Casie a couple of times and our weekend at Viamede Resort was a big highlight. I want to get away sometime this month and hope I can make it happen!

  • Not a long read but super cool! Neolithic Battlefield Unearthed in Wales
  • BlogTO had a great post about Toronto’s secret tunnels
  • I love shortkeys and ways to make using a computer more efficient. These 18 Cool Internet Tricks are really neat.
  • 25 Awesome Furniture Design Ideas for Cats inspired me to buy Harley a mini cat tree to play on. And then I promptly returned it because he HATED it. But these ideas are really cool and he would LOVE them.
  • I think this is very interesting, but wonder how kids will learn things like proper handwriting? Google’s New Program Pushes for Paperless Education.
  • I’ve never lived in a condo and am honestly not interested in it. As a renter, I’ve lived in a 10 story apartment building but prefer to live in main floor house apartments.  I thought this was a great read about the reality of raising a family in a condo – Stuck in Condoland.
  • Back to school time is upon us again and I use to feel a bit sad that I wasn’t heading back to learn something new. I’ve been upgrading my skills and keep my mind sharp by taking online courses over the years (html, photoshop, PR courses, business courses) and when Hilary posted the link to Coursera on her FB I had to share here. Go forth and learn!!
  • Adrian shared this with me today and it’s pretty cool 7 Deadly Sins as Depicted by Cat Illustrations.
  • Science Says: Here’s The Facts About Aggressive Dogs -please watch this video if you have a dog, know a dog or have ever seen a dog in real life. “It all comes down to how you treat them when they are a puppy”. Aggressive human behaviour when training (yelling, hitting) tends to breed aggressive dogs… Some food for thought. Now share it.
