Raw Juice Guru Blogger Challenge – Post 2

I’m on juice #5 of the day and it’s 2:45pm so my usual “go get another tea” time. Overall I’m feeling pretty good. I have had to pee fairly often because I’m drinking juice and lots of water. I just got the first twinge of a headache, so hopefully it doesn’t turn into a full blown headache. I am craving a big, juicy, veggie burger and maybe some chocolate and almonds…

This is real juice though, no sugar added and you can literally taste all of the fruits & veggies it was made with. The taste was not at all what I expected, coming from drinking the “Fruit Smoothies” you get a the grocery store. I keep expecting a sweet, fruity drink but it’s very healthy tasting – not gross at all, just fresh and good for you 🙂

Here’s what I’ve had so far today:

Juice 1
Spinach, parsley, kale, lemon cucumber, apple, celery
Juice 2
Lemon, filtered water, cayenne pepper, raw coconut nectar
Juice 3
Wheatgrass, pineapple
Juice 4
Celery, carrot, lemon, ginger, beet, pear
Juice 5
Watermelon celery, lemon

Raw Juice Guru Blogger Challenge – Post 1

RawJuiceImageI was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the 7 Bloggers to participate in the Raw Juice Guru Blogger Challenge and this morning my first batch of Raw, Cold Pressed Juice from the Raw Juice Guru arrived. I’ve always wanted to do a cleanse of some sort, but have heard horror stories and watched friends go through awful, homemade lemon juice-maple syrup-cayenne pepper cleanses, so steered clear. I was really excited to be chosen as part of the 7 Bloggers doing the Raw Juice Cleanse and looking forward to the results.

So for the next 3 days I’m doing a “long weekend detox” which I’ve decided is the start of a healthier me! So follow along for my insights (good, bad and maybe some ugly) and I’ll make sure to overshare 🙂

Juice #1
Spinach, parsley, kale, lemon cucumber, apple, celery

I drank this while gettting ready for work.
An ok tasting juice. Very green and leafy and less sweet than other “green juices” I’ve tried.
I felt a little off in my stomach on the ride in and when I got in to work I was really hot and a bit sweaty. Not sure if it was just hot or me.
Felt good once I settled in and am ready to drink Juice 2

Nature Clean & a giveaway

When Nature Clean asked me to be a part of their sampling program and try out their new Pure Nourishment shampoo & conditioner and Refresh soap  I said yes right away.  I’m a fan of their cleaning products and had no idea they made beauty products as well.  Nature Clean is a Canadian, third generation, family run company that makes non-toxic alternatives to household products and that is my favourite kind of brand.  I’ve been making a conscious effort lately to replace products with greener versions and I hate that there are so many different chemicals in beauty products.  I also like to use Canadian made products as much as possible.

The shampoo & conditioner are both 98% natural ingredients and have no parabens, sulphates and phthalates and I really like them both.  It acts like a homemade shampoo and doesn’t lather which I found hard to get used to at first, but it leaves your hair nice and clean feeling without a residue.  The conditioner goes on smooth and it makes my hair feel soft and clean.  I’ve had to use a deep conditioner a couple times because I kinda fried the ends of my hair by dying it twice in a week, but otherwise have used the Nature Clean exclusively.  I haven’t had a chance to try the soap yet but it smells amazing.  I’ll be reviewing all the products on my ChickAdvisor profile and will Tweet/FB when they’re up.

They also sent me a bunch of 60mL bottles of shampoo and conditioner to give away to family and friends and I’ve got 10 packs to give away to you guys.  For this giveaway you have to live in Canada, sorry guys, but I can’t send stuff like this over the border.  If you want one all you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me if you have ever tried a Nature Clean product before.  There’s no wrong answer and the first 10 people to comment will win 🙂

Also, if you’d like to share your opinion on the products, you can send me a write up and I’ll post it on my blog 🙂

Last night I was out with friends and found out that an acquaintance of mine had been arrested and charged for drinking and driving.  She is a young girl, maybe 20 years old and apparently after a night of drinking decided to try and drive the 1 1/2 hours home.  I was absolutely shocked to hear this.  Are people really still drinking and driving?  Have we not learned that this is an irresponsible choice, and one that could be fatal?  How can you be that stupid and have such little regard for your life or someone else’s?

I have lost numerous friends over the years to drinking and driving and it is absolutely devastating.  One friend was asleep in the back of her car when her boyfriend decided to drive home from an outdoor party.  Her best friend was in the passenger seat, also sleeping.  Well the driver was too drunk to drive and either fell asleep at the wheel or lost control and my friend was thrown from the car and died instantly, her friend had to learn how to walk again and the boyfriend I believe is in a wheelchair.  Maybe because I’m from such a small town these incidents are more impactful, more tragic because the community is so close.  I still remember the exact moment I was told about her death, and as I write this there are tears in my eyes remembering her.  Rest in Peace Brooke.

I cannot imagine getting behind the wheel if I was drunk, or even a little buzzed.  I couldn’t imagine putting my family and friends through the hell of me killing myself – or someone else – because I was too stupid to stay overnight, call for a ride, take a taxi.  I really think that this shows a lack of respect for human life and ignorance on the part of the drunk driver.

As we head into the summer and patio season, please be responsible and don’t drink and drive.  And if a friend insists on driving?  Well, would you rather them be mad at you for a day because you wouldn’t give them the keys or have to go to their funeral and look at the people left behind.  I hope this acquaintance has learned her lesson and I hope the friends that were with her will think twice before letting someone leave in a car when they are drunk.

Gym Day 4

***This post was one of the lost kaponetwo entries, but thanks to Wayback Machine web archive I was able to restore it!***

Today was chest day.  It was pretty hard, but did pretty well.  I have to start writing down the weights that I do cause I think it’s pretty impressive.  I’m using all of the machines at the gym and it’s crazy because I’ve always been so scared of them.  I really like going now, even though its hard and I’m kinda sore afterwards.

My trainer Carl is awesome.  He pushes me, which is good cause I might cheat, and we have a good time talking between sets.  He also emails me what we do each time cause I never remember.

So for Chest Day the machines I used were:

Smith Machine flat bench press
smith machine incline bench press
decline bench press (free bar)
Side to side oblique touches
Decline bench sit-up’s
ball raise / leg raise
oblique twists
And I’ve been doing 10 reps about 4 or 5 times I think.  Chad noticed that I’m looking more fit and I can totally tell.  20 more sessions and I’m going to be ridiculous.
