Nailopolis review

Saturday at 10am I had my Luxury Mani/Pedi appointment at Nailopolis and let me tell you for $39 it’s an amazing deal.  My Esthetician was Tyra and she was absolutely fantastic so make sure you ask for her!

I walked in to the cutest shabby chic salon and it reminded me of the store Chatelet.  It was a really cozy environment and the decor is so comforting and relaxing.  Much nicer then some of the more medical asthetic salons I’ve been to.

Everyone was super nice and friendly and I felt right at home as soon as I walked through the doors.  The salon had been there for some time under previous owners and the new location and name Nailopolis has been open for a few months now.

I had alot of questions about the Shellac process as I’d never had it done before and I’ve had some scary nail appointments in the past (acrylics!!) so was concerned about the health of my nails.  I felt at ease as both the owner Penny and Tyra were super knowledgeable and of course experts, so I was informed and ready to go!

I started with a yummy chocolatey chai tea and ginger snaps – and I forgot to take a photo but it was served in a proper china tea cup and saucer – which totally speaks to my tea-loving, girly side.

I had my pedicure first – regular, not shellac – and chose the Mint soak with brown sugar scrub.  It was refreshing and soo relaxing I almost fell asleep.  I got a nice scrub and learned a great trick of the trade – they use Grapeseed Oil for your cuticles!  Then came the Pomegrante & fig lotion along with a heavenly foot massage!  Next was the polish and I of course chose the sparkly red James Bond OPI colour for my toes.

Next was my Shellac manicure and I was super excited to try it out for the first time.  I chose another red shellac colour called “I Am Not A Waitress” (also by OPI)

The shellac process wasn’t any more time consuming then a regular manicure and in fact I think it was a faster process!  Tyra used Acetone to dehydrate and make sure there was no trace of moisture or oil on my nails.  She then applied a base coat which you dry under a UV light for 90 seconds.  Of course she told me that the UV light was not enough to give me radiation OR give me a tan, but just enough to dry the polish.  After the base coat was dry she did 2 coats of polish – and after every coat they dried under the UV light for 2 minutes.  Finally she did the top coat which seals the polish and it hardened/dried under the UV light for 3 minutes.

I would highly recommend the shellac manicure and you should go to Nailopolis and ask for Tyra regardless.  She is knowledgeble and pretty fantastic.  I really enjoyed chatting with her and will go back in 2 weeks to get the shellac removed and another manicure done.

She did give me some words of caution – if I peel off my nail polish it WILL take a layer off my nails.  You have to have it removed professionally.  So take note and don’t peel!

If you  have a chance to get the deal they’ve extended it for 7 more hours and you can do so by clicking HERE and if you want to see all their daily deals click HERE or on the Buytopia logo in my sidebar.

Thank you to Nailopolis, Tyra and Buytopia for the awesome experience!!

Just another Manic Monday

woah oh woah….

Bonus points  if you know the title reference!

I had a great weekend.  I got my nails done at Nailopolis on Saturday morning – thank you to Tyra because my fingers and toes look AMAZING!  I’ll be posting about my experience this evening.

After mani/pedi I went to see my lovely cousin Jeri-Lyn for a hair cut and colour.  I LOVE new hair more then anything.  It just makes you feel so good!

Then I came home and took my man and my brother to the Marlies hockey game.  Sunday was a brunch date at ViVetha with Jason and then we relaxed and watched movies/played games/cuddled with Harley and ordered a Mama’s pizza for dinner.  All in all it was an pretty great weekend.

Today I’m really excited because I’m going to speak to my first class of Centennial College PR students about working with recruiters and giving them feedback on their resumes.  I absolutely LOVE talking to students so feel free to give me a call if you’d like me to come in to your class.

I hope everyone has a great Monday and that you’re getting excited for the holidays!

Cousin + Hair Makeover = AWESOME!

This morning I got up and drove my butt to Oshawa to the new Mark Anthony Salon (178 Athol St East) where my cousin Jeri works to get a hair makeover.

I haven’t had my hair done since November 2011 and was in desperate need.  I’d been trying to grow it out and dying it at home myself – check out my review of the John Freida haircolour – and to be honest I was a little worried that I would get in trouble for ruining my hair.

Jeri’s specialty is colour and she is a true artist!  She blended different blondes to create this amazing natural ashy blonde colour.  You know how I love my platinum but does it ever wreak havoc on your hair!

I am trying to grow my hair out so she gave me a really cool layered cut that will grow out nicely AND I finally have Pink back in my hair.  It’s just a bit at the front now but seeing it makes me super happy and I’m thinking that I might need to put a little more in 🙂

If you live in the Durham/Kawartha region and are looking for an new stylist, a great cut or amazing custom colour check out Jeri & her crew at Mark Anthony.  Tell her you found her via my blog 🙂

Thanks for fitting me in cousin.  I LOVE what you did.

Nature Clean & a giveaway

When Nature Clean asked me to be a part of their sampling program and try out their new Pure Nourishment shampoo & conditioner and Refresh soap  I said yes right away.  I’m a fan of their cleaning products and had no idea they made beauty products as well.  Nature Clean is a Canadian, third generation, family run company that makes non-toxic alternatives to household products and that is my favourite kind of brand.  I’ve been making a conscious effort lately to replace products with greener versions and I hate that there are so many different chemicals in beauty products.  I also like to use Canadian made products as much as possible.

The shampoo & conditioner are both 98% natural ingredients and have no parabens, sulphates and phthalates and I really like them both.  It acts like a homemade shampoo and doesn’t lather which I found hard to get used to at first, but it leaves your hair nice and clean feeling without a residue.  The conditioner goes on smooth and it makes my hair feel soft and clean.  I’ve had to use a deep conditioner a couple times because I kinda fried the ends of my hair by dying it twice in a week, but otherwise have used the Nature Clean exclusively.  I haven’t had a chance to try the soap yet but it smells amazing.  I’ll be reviewing all the products on my ChickAdvisor profile and will Tweet/FB when they’re up.

They also sent me a bunch of 60mL bottles of shampoo and conditioner to give away to family and friends and I’ve got 10 packs to give away to you guys.  For this giveaway you have to live in Canada, sorry guys, but I can’t send stuff like this over the border.  If you want one all you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me if you have ever tried a Nature Clean product before.  There’s no wrong answer and the first 10 people to comment will win 🙂

Also, if you’d like to share your opinion on the products, you can send me a write up and I’ll post it on my blog 🙂
